Are Job Titles Falling in Value in Malaysia?

Today on the all-new The Workplace, we explore the notable surge in job title inflation in Malaysia in 2023 with Ai Rene Tan, Country Manager at Robert Walters Malaysia.

Among other things, we dive into the poll that Robert Walters Malaysia ran and its results, the scale and scope of job title inflation in Malaysia, where it is most prevalent, and how companies and HR teams can better manage talent without job title inflation.

Some key highlights from the poll include:

  • A 55% increase in positions with titles such as “Vice President” and a 25 % increase for the “Director” titles for jobs intended for professionals with 2 years of experience.

  • That 91% of professionals consider the job title to be important or very important when applying for a role.

  • 47% of young professionals expect to be promoted within 24 months of working in a company.
