When Performers Should Just Perform

Chaos ensued over the weekend when Matt Healy frontman of The 1975 aggressively spoke out against Malaysia's anti-LGBT laws and caused the cancellation of the 3-day Good Vibes Festival, much to the dismay of music fans & social activists. And while his profanity laden rant came at a sensitive time as state elections are looming, this incident opens up a larger conversation about policy around performances especially when it comes to international acts, who are more often than not, oblivious to cultural sensitivities of the country. We explore its wider implications and get an inside look into how this had affected artistes who were due to take to the stage in Sepang.
