The Venopian Solitude

Takahara Suiko, The Venopian Solitude

23-Oct-15 20:00

The Venopian Solitude

Tonight, Venopian Solitude in our studio earlier! It is the brainchild of Suiko Takahara, created in 2009 at an undisclosed college dorm room; it rides on a form of genre called experimenternative, a word blended from mixing experiment and alternative together.

Takahara’s music would use an extensive range of instruments, ranging from MIDI keyboards, the guitar to whatever she could grab her hands on (she once used a tissue box for a song she recorded). The Venopian Solitude has a brand of music layered with different sounds laced with strong lyrics about modern culture, whether on questionable actions, taboos and mother nature.

She notes that her influences are Kimya Dawson, Regina Spektor, Laura Marling, Kimbra and Kawehi to name a few. She was found by KasiGegar Entertainment Studios via Youtube after she did a cover of GoGerila’s Outlaw. Anas Amdan, one half of the studio’s founding members, said that her music is a refreshing change for the local music industry.

In 2013, she received funding from The Wknd to launch her first ever single titled Warkah Narcissus. By 2014 under KGE Studio, she released her debut album Hikayat Perawan Majnum. Containing eight tracks, all the songs were created by her and received minor touches by Anas. In the same year, The Venopian Solitude was nominated for Best Music Arrangement, Best Music Video and Best Album Recording at the Anugerah Industri Muzik 2014

For the record, Takahara scored 21 points!
