Joanna Bessey

Tonight, we were joined by the lady who was pushed into Malaysian TV stardom by her role in the cult comedy hit ‘Kopitiam’, Joanna Bessey! Born to a Malaysian mother and British father, even at birth Joanna was already a globetrotter.

She was born in West Sussex, England. Coming back into Asia with a period of being back in Kajang, staying in Singapore for a couple of years and back to Malaysia when she’s six. Studied in England again when she was 11 where she started being influenced to do the arts. Her granddad did poetry and the energy he conveys, was stuck in her as she moved on up to study acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, Los Angeles. She came back when she’s 20 and dived deep in Malaysian TV limelight when she started ‘Kopitiam’.

Known to be a woman who does not rest on her laurels, Joanna’s been up and about ever since those memorable seven seasons with the ‘Kopitiam’ name. Now having the title of ‘Ringmaster’ for Enfiniti Academy of Arts, she and Na’a Murad created a new original play titled ‘Love Journey - A Nation Of Two’.

Written by Joanna and Na’a Murad, it is a play about an urban Malaysian woman who on one hand has a tie into traditional culture whilst moving forwards with the globalization era and also managing to fall in love with a foreigner. The play will run from 25th July to 2nd August at The Black Box, Enfiniti Academy, Encrop Strand, Kota Damansara.

For the record, Joanna scored _ !
