Ahmad Faris

Tonight we had a man who’s single vision of creating a youth-centric portal has led him to creating a creative agency, a popular online TV show and even SE Asia’s biggest crowdfunded event; he’s none other than the leader of the IkanPaos Kolektif, it’s Ahmad Faris!

Ahmad Faris’ story all started with a Diploma in Broadcasting before he ventured off into Astro Awani and ending up as a newsreader for the channel. After realising television programmes cater to all age groups with the exception of youths, Faris stopped his news reading job as he wants to write it for himself.

The IkanPaos Kolektif was actually setup in Faris’ bedroom as an idea of a one-stop avenue for a self-funded, highly collaborative one with working on projects with other companies and businesses. With the ball rolling, Faris and his business partner Ahmad Hafizzuden, created TAPAU.tv as they wanted to fill the void where television did not serve nor represent the youth culture of Malaysia.

Faris, wanting to increase TAPAU.tv’s traffic flow devised a bold new plan in 2014. He and the IkanPaos Kolektif coupled with the power of crowdfunding, managed to launch TAPAUfest. It was South East Asia’s first and biggest crowdfunded festival ever. The goal was set for RM85,000 in 30 days. The team managed to pass the goal at a cool RM87,705 at the end of the month.

TAPAU.fest was a success with a combination of local talents from Chinese opera, clothing, food, films, furniture, music, talks and games. Even the multi-award winning film Terbaik Dari Langit was premiered at the fest before it’s official screening!

For the record, Faris scored 16!
