Afiq Iskandar

Tonight, we were joined by the lead frontman of Red Ruby Avengers and also known as the founder of Tarik Jeans, Afiq ‘Amber’ Iskandar!

Recently back from giving a talk to young entrepreneurs and business individuals, Afiq is in the forefront of Malaysian streetwear fashion with his Tarik Jeans clothing line and his venture, Nusantara Denim. Imbuing his philosophy of long lasting, quality products and a good pull of Malaysian taste for good measure, Afiq hopes for Tarik Jeans to be a household name in the Malaysian denim scene.

Oh Chentaku is the band that he’s associated with, but it is Red Ruby Avengers where Afiq shines. Though believing labelling them in certain genres can be limiting, Afiq as their leading frontman, RRA produces a sound which can only be classified as alternative rock. Citing influences from great 90’s bands such as Nirvana, Butterfingers and Smashing Pumpkins, RRA’s constant shifts from the clean sounds to the heavy distorted guitars, haunting basslines, tactical drums and melodic vocals will define and carry their sound.
