The Art of Festive Colours

Have you ever stopped to marvel at the elaborately colourful patterns drawn on the floors of shopping malls during Deepavali season? This week we find out about this wonderful art form with Ruben Prakash, Kolam artist extraordinaire. We explore the ins and outs of the artistic practice, including the mathematical calculations that go into the execution of a Kolam. Steeped in the Hindu culture and traditionally practised by the womenfolk, Kolam is also evolving with the times, where modern elements such as 3D installations are being incorporated. Ruben shares his interesting insights on all this from the perspective of a master practitioner.
