Price Controls And Imports Create Food Supply Havoc

Starting 1 September, Bernas increased the price of imported white rice by 36%, taking the selling price up to RM3,200 per tonne. This has created an overnight surge in demand for locally produced white rice leading to shortages at retail outlets.

We speak with Datuk Wira Dr Ameer Ali Mydin, Managing Director of Mydin on the challenges retailers are facing, amidst complaints from consumers and if the government can manage the rice industry better.
