His Holiness Pope Francis leads a congregation of 1.2 billion, and the Holy See as the universal government of the Catholic Church which operates from Vatican City State, a sovereign, independent territory. In 2002 then Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad visited the Vatican, meeting with Pope John Paul II. But it was during a 2011 meeting between PM Najib Razak and Pope Benedict the 16th that there was an agreement to establish diplomatic relations. Today, we explore the points of convergence between the diplomatic agendas of the Holy See and Malaysia.
