Some IDEAS to Consider on E-Hailing Regulations

The deadline for e-hailing drivers to obtain a public service vehicle or PSV license, as required by the Ministry of Transport, is looming on 12 July. So far less than 10% of drivers are estimated to have applied for the license. If far too few e-hailing drivers obtain this license, we may see the number of drivers on Grab and other platforms fall, leading to longer wait times and higher fees.

We speak to Laurence Todd, Head of Research and Development of the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) for his views on the regulation as well as its impact.
