Jakarta - Performance or Prejudice?

A two horse race between the incumbent Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, better known as Ahok, and former minister Anies Baswedan, is being touted as a struggle between “religious solidarity and governmental performance”. This comes after a campaign marked by religious and racial hostility. Seen as a stepping stone to presidency in the 2019 polls, and with each candidate backed by rivals during the last Presidential elections, all eyes are on Indonesia’s capital today.

Today on Current Affairs, BFM asks what’s at stake in the Jakarta gubernatorial race.

This is a report by Sharaad Kuttan.
