Jerusalem - Whose Eternal Capital?

This morning US President Donald Trump announced that his Administration formally recognises Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and will begin the process of moving its embassy to the city. This decision breaks with decades of US policy. East Jerusalem was annexed by Israel in 1967 and has not been recognised internationally. The Malaysian Government has issued a statement calling for the US to reconsider the move while the United Nations Security Council will meet tomorrow in an emergency session to discuss the decision. Today we try to understand not just the motivations for the move but also its likely impact on regional dynamics.
