Episode #19: The Secret History of Batman (When We Last Left Our Heroes)

We know Batman. We’ve seen him in the pages of comic books, on TV, and at the movies for over 75 years. The character is such an indispensable part of global popular culture, the lingo surrounding his world is so pervasive, that everyone - comic book fan or not - knows most everything about him. Ever since his inception, there has been one credit associated with everything Batman. In fact, every single thing to do with the character - comic or movie, cartoon, toy, and video game comes emblazoned with the words: “Batman created by Bob Kane.” And so, because of those five simple words, you, like me, would have believed that Batman was - in fact - created by Bob Kane.

This month, on When We Last Left Our Heroes, Umapagan Ampikaipakan and Marc Tyler Nobleman tell you why everything you know is wrong. They tell you the story of the brilliant writer, Bill Finger; the unsung hero of this superhero story, the man responsible for most everything we know and love about Batman.
