Top 5 at 5: Trump Wants International Students Out of Harvard

After the Department of Homeland Security sought to revoke Harvard’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification, the fate of international students looking to apply or are already enrolled have been up in the air. We talk to Eu Wen Khoo, President of the Harvard Club of Malaysia about what to expect as the situation plays out in the coming weeks.

Other stories we covered:

• Disruptions to the Taiping Prison Abuse inquiry: Suhakam Commissioner Mariati Robert’s term is coming to an end, and she sat on a panel that is investigating the prison after at least two deaths. Her departure from the panel could reset the inquiry and halt the investigation. We talk to Charles Hector, coordinator of Madpet, or Malaysians Against Death Penalty and Torture about the situation.

• Bukit Gasing development project under fire: An environmental group, along with residents, have spoken out about a development of bungalows in Bukit Gasing. However, Bukit Gasing assemblyperson Rajiv Rishyakaran has said that these projects are being done on privtae land. We hear from Rajiv himself about his position. We also speak to PEKA president Rajesh Nagarajan about where their concerns are.

• Former MIC President passes away at 76: Datuk Seri G. Palanivel has passed away earlier this morning. We cover his political career from the start and the condolences from other government leaders. We hear from Mathuraiveran Marimuthu, Former MIC Central Working Committee Member and N. Saraswathy, leader of MIC’s women’s wing about the late Datuk Seri.

• Is AI the new news reporter?: Generative AI chatbots like ChatGPT are becoming the preferred source of news for people.
