Top 5 At 5: The Madness of 'The Malaya'

The stories we covered today include:

5. Cambridge Dictionary is expanding its Gen-Z vernacular. Latest additions to the dictionary include phrases like "the ick", "IYKYK", "chef's kiss" and gaming terms like "speedrun" and "side quest". We talk about the ever-shifting tides of language, and how it influences mainstream communication and reshapes the way we speak, text and tweet.

4. In the latest update of the Health Ministry's war on sugar, Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefy Ahmad says companies that reduce the sugar content in their products will be given the "Healthier Choice" logo. Dr Tee E Siong, a nutritionist and Chairman of the National Steering Committeee for Nutrition Month Malaysia shares his thoughts on the move.

3. A finding in a study led by Conservation International has suggested that the battle against climate change is more complicated than the act of just planting a large number of trees. They found that in some cases, half the time it's better to just let forests regenerate naturally. Dr Lim Teck Wyn, an Honorary Associate Professor at the School of Environmental and Geographical Sciences in the University of Nottingham Malaysia clarifies the findings in the Malaysian context.

2. Rizman Ruzaini's official attire for the Malaysian contingent at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, named The Malaya, has gotten mixed reception. Some calling it elegant, others calling it "syok sendiri". Many pointing out the collection's title only refers to Peninsular Malaysia and excludes Sabah and Sarawak. We reached out to Nadira Ilana, a Sabahan filmmaker, for her thoughts.

1. Our top story: Could a build-then-sell system protect house buyers? We explore this alternative to the current sell-then-build system with Chaly Koh, CEO of Urbanmentry.
