Top 5 At 5: Pei Pa Koa Ice Cream Coughs Up Trouble

The stories we covered today include:

5. The assassination of Hamas political chief, Ismail Haniyeh in Iran has been met with shock and condemnation around the world. Saul Takahashi, Professor of Human Rights and Peace Studies at the Osaka Jogakuin University shares some history about Ismail Haniyeh, and the potential fallout of the assassination.

4. The Ministry of Health has banned the use of herbal cough syrup, Pei Pa Koa as a flavour of ice cream, saying that it went against Malaysia's Food Act to adulterate edible items with medicine. Ng Yi Ling, Deputy General Secretary of the Malaysian Pharmacists Society sheds some light on this.

3. A study by software firm Blackberry has found that almost 80% of software supply chains in Malaysia were exposed to cyberattacks in the past, which is high when compared to the global average of 76%. This raises concerns about the country's ability to achieve its goal in being a global semiconductor power. Dr Selvakumar Manickam, Director and Associate Professor at USM, shares his thoughts on how significant our cybersecurity issues are. We also hear from Ong Kian Yiew, the CEO of the National Tech Association of Malaysia.

2. Whistleblowers have flagged Sungai Buloh Hospital's surveillance system for breaching the privacy of its patients. We hear from Dr Sharon Kaur Gurmukh Singh, a Senior Lecturer from the Faculty of Law at UM on the ethical uses of hospital surveillance systems.

1. Our top story: A decade-old case of abuse against a domestic worker has finally seen the two offenders charged with trafficking and exploitation. For this, we speak with Barathi Selvam, a Senior Research Officer at the Women's Aid Organisation.
