Top 5 At 5: Do Malaysians Support Using AI In Classrooms?

The idea of artificial intelligence being taught in schools seems inevitable, but some people think it should be banned. According to an Ipsos survey, 29 percent of Malaysians support this ban. We unpack this with Felicia Yoon, the co-founder of Arus Academy.

Other stories we covered in this episode:

  • Cheah Liek Hou has defended his gold medal in the Paris Paralympics, besting Indonesia’s Suryo Nugroho in the men's single SU5. We discuss this win, the overall performances of our paralympians, and support for them with our panel of guests, which includes Fabian Mark Peter, a sports journalist from SCOOP, Datuk Seri Megat D. Shariman, who is the President of the Paralympic Council of Malaysia and Datuk Ras Adiba, the chairperson of Persatuan OKU Sentral and former national paralympic sharpshooter.

  • Sabah's Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has brought up the fact that only 28 medical social workers are currently serving the state as a whole. We speak to Luei Jia Qi, a medical social worker and Exco of the Malaysian Association of Social Workers about why this disparity is an issue.

  • According to the latest data from the Department of Statistics, there's been an 11% increase in public transport ridership across rail and bus services. Kusaaliny Mahendran, one of the co-founders of SocDem Malaysia, joins us to unpack what these numbers mean.

  • The government has shelved its plans for the Orangutan Diplomacy programme, and are instead focusing on their protection. We hear thoughts from Dr Felicity Oram, an orangutan field researcher with the Malaysian Primatology Society.
