Top 5 at 5: Billionaire Anutin Charnvirakul is Thailand's New PM

Billionaire Anutin Charnvirakun has been appointed as the 32nd Prime Minister of Thailand, following the suspension of previous Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinwatra due to the mishandling of the Cambodian border dispute. But his appointment, backed by Thailand's dominant party, comes with several conditions. We dive into it with Greg Raymond, senior lecturer at the Australian National University.

Other stories we covered:

• Muhyiddin for PM: Former PM Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been endorsed unanimously by his party to take on the Prime Minister role, after a shouting match at a party meeting triggered members to chant their support of him. We spoke to Syaza Shukri, Associate Professor of Political Science at the International Islamic University Malaysia.

• Unpaid incentives for athletes: 55 years late, Datuk Ng Joo Ngan, Malaysia’s 1970 Sportsman of the Year, has finally received his RM5,000 incentive, though without interest. We hear from the cycling legend himself, and sports journalist Haresh Deol about fair compensation for atheletes.

• Bettering the university application process: MPs say STPM students are being left behind in public university admissions. We revisit a conversation Morning Run had with Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin about long and short term solutions.

• Is the New World Order system changing?: A new world order may be taking shape, as non-Western powers rally around BRICS and the SCO to push for a multipolar global system. With protests erupting over Israel’s aggression, sanctions targeting the ICC, and warships stirring tension in the Taiwan Strait, we ask: is democracy in retreat, and is a global conflict looming? We discuss.
