4. The Singapore Food Agency just approved 16 species of insects as safe to be sold for human consumption. The food agency is anticipating the growth of the edible insect industry, as it is expected to reach US$17.9 billion. We spoke to Dr Lim See Meng, a lecturer in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Nutrition Science Programme, on insect-based foods from the perspective of nutrition and food sustainability.

3. A shock win by the French left-wing coalition has triggered a hung parliament, for the first time in France’s history. Dr Benjamin Barton, assistant professor at the School of Politics, History and International Relations at the University of Nottingham Malaysia, shares his thoughts on the outcome of the election.

The Alor Setar High Court has ruled that the Kedah state government’s decision to stop issuing and renewing business premise licences for gambling outlets, a move made to "tackle social ills", was in violation of the Federal Constitution. We reached out to lawyer Lim Wei Jiet to deconstruct the issue.
