Top 5 at 5: Pipeline Explosion Shakes Putra Heights

A gas pipeline puncture during drilling triggered a massive explosion in Putra Heights, with flames spreading across Subang Jaya. The disaster displaced 300 people, damaged over 200 houses and vehicles, and forced many residents to evacuate. We speak to two affected residents: Sanchita Vinayagam, who lives in Putra Avenue and also Muhammad Asnizam, who was staying at his mother-in-law’s house in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru.

Other stories we covered:

Injuries from the Putra Heights incident: The Putra Heights fire left 112 individuals injured, with 13 in critical condition and many treated for second-degree burns. Consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr Jagjeet Singh joins us to explain the recovery challenges faced by burn victims, who also experience symptoms like dizziness and breathing difficulties.
Civil war impedes Myanmar's earthquake relief efforts: The devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar has left over 2,700 dead and hundreds missing, with challenges mounting for rescuers due to collapsed infrastructure and extreme conditions. Debbie Stothard, founder of ALTSEAN-Burma, joins us to talk about the ongoing civil war's impact on humanitarian aid, as the junta faces scrutiny over its actions.
Felda's call for reform and innovation: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has tasked Felda with creating a game plan to align with its cooperative and subsidiary within a month. Datin Professor Fatimah Mohamad Arshad, an expert in agricultural marketing policy, joins to unpack Felda’s need for reform and its push for innovation beyond government reliance.
AI Meets Studio Ghibli: Art or Exploitation? ChatGPT’s latest feature has sparked a viral wave of Ghibli-style portraits, stirring debates over artistry, ethics, and copyright.
