Top 5 at 5: Addressing The Gender Gap in STEM Graduates

A recent study reveals that only 27% of engineering graduates in Malaysia are women, despite the country scoring highest in Southeast Asia for gender equality in education and literacy. Felicia Yoon, Co-Founder of ARUS Academy, joins us to discuss why the gender gap persists in STEM fields and what can be done to fix it.

Other stories we covered:

• SPM results see uptick in straight A students: More than 14,000 students scored straight As in the latest SPM results, with overall performance improving and the urban-rural gap narrowing significantly. We hear a clip from education minister Fadhlina Sidek congratulating students and highlighting their opportunities for the future.
Global coral reefs face worst bleaching ever recorded: Over 80% of coral reefs globally are experiencing a mass bleaching event—the most severe on record. Co-Founder of conservation NGO Coralku Sebastian Szereday shares what Malaysia must do to protect these critical ecosystems.
• Batu Ferringhi shoreline disappearing, centimetre by centimetre: Erosion is eating away at Batu Ferringhi’s coast, with several centimetres lost every month. Mageswari Sangaralingam, Honorary Secretary of Sahabat Alam Malaysia, explains the root causes and what action is urgently needed.
