Back in October 1987, the crackdown which became known as Ops Lalang led to the detention of 106 individuals under the Internal Security Act, including politicians, social activists, intellectuals, and religious leaders. It also led to the five-month shutdown of The Star, Sin Chew Jit Poh and Watan. Thirty years since Ops Lalang, we take a look back at how the incident shaped the Malaysian public landscape.
