Illegal vs Undocumented - How We Talk About Migrants in Malaysia

A recent clip of a news report mistakenly calling the new U.S. vice president-elect, Kamala Harris, the daughter of an “illegal immigrant” has been making the rounds on social media. That has sparked discussions about the weight that terms like “pendatang asing tanpa izin” and “illegal immigrants” carry with them, especially here in Malaysia. We speak to Amnesty International Malaysia about whether terms like these could affect the migrant community.
