You wake up, you pick up your phone, and scroll through a stream of updates and news headlines; and because it’s 2020, most of it is likely negative. After all, in the last few weeks alone, there was the potential announcement of a state of emergency being declared in Malaysia, and now next year’s budget being tabled amidst political uncertainty. Then, there were the US elections and its global ramifications. And not to mention, of course, the constant stream of COVID-19 news. So before you know it, all you’re doing in bingeing on bad news. This is called “doomscrolling” - we discuss what causes it and how to stop.
