Law & Behold #21: Freedom of Movement: Covid-19 and the Movement Control Order

Article 9 of The Federal Constitution provides that citizens have the right to freedom of movement. The State can however, lawfully restrict your freedom of movement for the purpose of national security, public order, public health or for the punishment of offenders. We take a look at what the Constitution says about the Movement Control Order, and what happens if you choose to ignore it, with Emeritus Professor Datuk Dr Shad Saleem Faruqi, a Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Malaya and Lim Wei Jiet, a constitutional lawyer. Law & Behold is an ongoing series aimed at improving constitutional literacy among Malaysians, done in collaboration with The Malaysian Bar and the University of Malaya's Faculty of Law.
