Malaysia has said a lot about being prepared for an ageing society. But are we headed for an ageing crisis instead, with older adults continuing to be dependent on informal care for their daily, social, health and financial needs, while carers remain invisible, underpaid or even unpaid? With the first ever International Day of Care and Support recently commemorated on 29 October, we discuss the urgent need to develop an aged care economy, with YB Pn Anfaal Saari, ADUN Taman Templer and Selangor State Exco for Women and Family Empowerment, Social Welfare and Care Economy, as well as Chai Sen Tyng, Senior Research Officer, Malaysian Research Institute on Ageing (MyAgeing), Universiti Putra Malaysia.
