Kidneys Under Pressure #2: Keeping Diabetes Under Control

It’s a bitter pill to swallow - Malaysia has the highest rate of diabetes in the Western Pacific region and one of the highest in the world. In just eight years, between 2011 and 2019, the prevalence of diabetes increased by a whopping 68% to 18.3% of the population - that’s almost 1 in 5 adults with diabetes. By 2025, the prevalence is expected to increase to 31.3% of the population. This burden is compounded by our rising rates of chronic kidney disease, which is mainly attributed to diabetes in Malaysia. In conjunction with World Diabetes Day on 14 November, we look at the link between diabetes and chronic kidney disease, and why control is key to living well with these diseases.

This show is brought to you by Boehringer Ingelheim Malaysia. Visit foryoursweetheart.my to learn more about diabetes - a major risk factor for chronic kidney disease - and get free health screening at participating clinics.
