Iconic Institutions: Pioneering Medical Education in Malaysia

This Merdeka and Malaysia Day, Health & Living celebrates iconic institutions of healthcare, from institutions of education, to research and health services. We start with a look at medical education in Malaysia, where you immediately think of University of Malaya’s Faculty of Medicine, the grand old dame that started out as the Straits Settlement and Federated Malay States Government Medical School back in 1905. From having only 17 medical students in the beginning, the school has come a long way over the last 119 years. Professor Dato' Dr Yang Faridah bt Abdul Aziz, Dean of UM’s Faculty of Medicine, joins us to reflect on the faculty’s achievements and how it will remain relevant as a provider of medical education in the future.
