Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease: What’s Causing the Outbreak?

With the relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions, most children are back in schools, preschools and day care centres or childcare centres. This has led to a sharp increase in a common childhood infection, hand, foot and mouth disease, with over 30,000 cases reported nationwide since the beginning of this year. While Minister of Health, Khairy Jamaluddin says this increase is to be expected, the Ministry is nevertheless cautioning parents, and operators of childcare centres and kindergartens to practice good hygiene measures to minimise the spread of the disease. Here is a replay of an interview with Datuk Dr Chong Chee Keong, Deputy Director-General (Health) from Ministry of Health on preventive measures that you can take.
