Doctor in the House: How Do Microplastics Affect The Human Body?

In March, scientists in the Netherlands discovered the presence of microplastics in human blood for the first time, adding weight to the growing call to recognise the impact of pollution on human health. What are microplastics, how do they make their way into the bloodstream, and how will it affect our bodies, especially our immune system? On Earth Day, we speak to immunologist Dr Juan Garcia Vallejo from Amsterdam University Medical Centers - one of the researchers involved in the microplastics study - to get these questions answered.
