Given the importance of coral reefs, Reef Check Malaysia is trying to advocate for greater protection of these reefs, but more often than not, economics trumps conservation.

In relation to Coral Triangle Day which was celebrated on the 9th of June, Julian Hyde, the General Manager of Reef Check Malaysia Bhd hopes to highlight the real economic value of Malaysia's coral reefs, which he believes is largely unknown or ignored.
